In situ configuration and calibration of the camera set-up

installation in use
SychroniCITY installation in use at Portsmouth 28/02/01

The installation was dominated by a large (8' by 6') back projection screen. The DV camera was positioned on a low tripod below the screen pointing upwards. Two ‘Anglepoise’ type lights were also positioned on the floor pointing upwards.

The low camera and lighting positions were used so that there was sufficient colour differences between the user’s hands and the background (this was helped by the colour temperature of the floor lights being much more ‘red’ than the cool lighting of the room and ceiling by fluorescent tubes).

One comment made by some users was that the standing position was too close to the screen. This could have been easily adjusted (and was later in the day) by moving the camera and the lights away from the screen.
